In awarding it a trophy and gold medal, English judge Tom Stevenson said it was “A Beacon for the unwooded chardonnay style”: and “would not be humbled beside a good French Chablis” .Hear, hear. The aromas and melon, pineapple and a whole basket of tropical fruit, with a touch of tobacco, but the wine has real structure, length and elegance, It’s soft and rich edge on the finish. Julian Alcoroso at Winemaking Tasmania has done a great job in maintaining the pristine purity of the suburb fruit from this Coal Valley vineyard. 12.8 per cent alcohol. Under screw cap. International judge Tom Stevenson also sang its praises at the TWS Trophy presentation dinner, where he applauded utilizing the very best fruit in this unwooded style, “a wine of immorality and Chablis character.” Sunday Tasmanian – August 19th 2007 Campania Hills Unwooded Chardonnay 2006 Pale straw green, ripe nectarines on the nose running to attractive stone fruit and zesty grapefruit flavours on a nicely textured and balanced, light to mid-weight palate, the finish crisp, clean and long-lingering. Excellent value and a very good wine. 12,8 per cent.
